Block Builder

Snap hempcrete blocks into a small home, layer by layer, and see a rough material count and price as you build.

Concept for testing interest. Hemp-lime blocks are not structural. A real build needs a timber or steel frame, a California engineer's design, and local permits. Under the 2024 IRC Appendix BL, hemp-lime is non-structural infill, and seismic zones D0 to D2 require an engineered design. The snap-together placement here is a design idea. The block it is priced on is laid in mortar.

Tap a square to stack the selected piece. Each square is 16″ × 16″ and each block layer is 8″ tall.

Rough material-only estimate, not a quote. It counts hemp blocks only. Labor, foundation, frame, roof, windows, doors, mortar, render, delivery, tax and permits are not included. Prices: standard block = Hemp and Block 12″×8″×16″ nominal hempcrete block, $21 each (made in the USA, published price checked Oct 17, 2026). Half block = $10.50, assuming one standard block is cut in two (our assumption, not a published price). The comparison line uses HempBLOCK LB300 interlocking blocks at a published $265 per m² of wall (indicative, excludes GST and transport to site, includes an estimated container shipping cost; the page does not state the currency). Roof panels, openings and frame posts are not priced because no published price was found.

Sources and block makers
  • Hemp and Block (USA): 4″/8″/12″ × 8″ × 16″ nominal blocks at $8 / $15.50 / $21, laid in mortar.
  • IsoHemp (Belgium): 60 × 30 cm face, 7.5 to 36 cm thick, 5.3 to 16.5 kg. The maker says the blocks have "no structural role."
  • HempBLOCK LB300: interlocking and mortar-free, 600 × 308 × 300 mm, 18 kg. Blocks act as formwork around a reinforced concrete post-and-beam structure.
  • Just BioFiber (Canada): interlocking, 21.3″ × 10.7″ × 8″, 13 kg, with an internal composite frame. No published price.
  • 2024 IRC Appendix BL: hemp-lime is non-structural infill around wall framing, limited to one story, and engineered design is required in Seismic Design Categories D0 to D2. The appendix applies only where a jurisdiction adopts it.
