About
For agencies
A short brief for public-sector staff: what MicroHom is, where its data comes from, how it handles personal information, and how to reach it.
MicroHom is an independent project, not a government website. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or acting for the State of California, HCD, CalHFA or any city or county.
What MicroHom is
A free planning tool that helps owners, builders and local partners plan small, affordable homes in California, with hemp-lime walls as the preferred material. It links parcel lookup, a block-based design estimator, a 3D walkthrough, code summaries, and sourced funding and spending figures.
Data sources
- Parcels: each county's public ArcGIS parcel service, queried live (see all 58 counties).
- Funding and spending: the State budget, LAO reports, HCD and CalHFA notices, HUD and USDA pages (see state and federal programs and spending).
- Code: the 2025 California Residential Code, Energy Code, Government Code and HCD bulletins (see Permits & Code).
- Suppliers: companies' own public websites, each checked live (see suppliers).
Every page lists its sources and the date each was checked. Statewide totals are never split into county shares, and shared Continuum of Care counts are never divided. Program totals are never shown as awards to MicroHom.
